The "Five and Dime"...for real.

We saw many more real estate listings today, nothing close to the Norwood property, I managed to post a video compilation of the place:

...and then we stopped through the little town of Ava to check out a "Drug Store" just off the town square that supposedly still had a soda fountain.  We looked at a property today and the lady that lived there told us we should stop by.

We could not believe our eyes...but you can still buy a scoop of ice cream for a nickel, two for a dime.  A small soda is a nickel and a large is a dime!  Amazing.

Talk about classic.  Talk about stepping back into the 50's, I love this place!

First Recon Day in Missouri

We drove 782 miles yesterday...checked into the Super 8 in Ava, Missouri and hit the beds at about 11pm.

Up early, quick continental breakfast and met the Realtor at 8am.

We drove all over the area looking at properties for 11 hours today.  We saw all kinds of different places, ranging from a $425,000 60 acre property with 2 very nice homes...to a $153,000 42 acre Amish property with  a house that was pretty rough around the edges.  There was also...a very modest two story Amish home on 100 acres that didn't even have an indoor bathroom, electricity...not even a drop of indoor plumbing.

The star of the day was a 110 acre property near Norwood Missouri.  It had a very, very nice one bedroom, one bath house and a very nice, 2 bed, 2 bath 1995 singlewide.  Incredible views, very well done 5 strand barbed wire full perimeter fencing and a very well though out system of cattle gates and 4 strand cross fencing for managing grazing.  It was like walking around a local park.  There was a large, stocked lake below the main house.
Looking down the lane with a large tillable area on the right.

One of the many outbuildings near the main house.

A look down at the decent sized lake from near the main house.

The main house also had a HUGE, fully screened and fully equipped outdoor cooking and eating area with a ginormous stainless steel bbq/cooking center - it even had a gas fired fish fryer, all with custom concrete counters.

This place was very well thought out, manicured and well maintained with easy road access yet very private and quiet.

Here is a link to the realtor's listing (click to open it up and see more pics and details)

We are meeting with the Realtor again at 8am tomorrow for another day full of driving and viewings.
